Pros

  • Space. Roll-up garage doors work well with a small space. These doors don’t swing out so it allows for more space both inside and out. On the outside cars can be parked up against the door and on the inside the garage door rolls into a compact unit, which means that it doesn’t take up space along your garage’s ceiling.
  • Efficiency. Availability as an insulated door means reducing your heating and cooling costs.
  • Strong and secure. Roll-up garage doors do not feature handles on the outside which means they are harder for an intruder to open. Additionally,  the motor for automatic roller garage doors can actually function as a lock for the door itself.
  • Manual or automatic. Both types are available and may be a better option depending on available space.
  • Aesthetics. A wide range of materials, colors and finishes are available.
  • Simplicity. Easy to operate and less mechanical parts means less parts that could break down over the years.
  • Durability. These garage doors are extremely strong and are built to withstand weather. They will look good for many years with less maintenance than some other types.

Cons

  • Customization. Fewer customization options are available. Although they come in a variety of materials, this door always has horizontal lines. There are no patterns available and very minimal space available for windows.
  • Pricing. High-quality roll-up doors can be more expensive than other garage doors, depending on the chosen construction material.
  • Changeability. If you want your roller door painted it is recommended that it is painted before install. Changing your mind and wanting to change the color later could be a much more involved process.
